A handy high branch saw can greatly improve work efficiency in gardening operations, especially when dealing with tasks such as pruning trees and shaping fruit trees. Lightweight high branch saws made of stainless steel are highly favored due to their corrosion resistance, lightweight and durability. However, there are many products on the market, how to choose a good tool?
1. Material and craftsmanship: the fundamental determinant of durability
Saw blade material: This is the core high carbon stainless steel in the core. It not only has the rust prevention properties of stainless steel, but also has higher hardness and retention (lasting sharpness of the blade) due to the addition of carbon elements. Avoid choosing ordinary low-quality stainless steel or high carbon steel that is prone to rusting (requiring frequent oiling and maintenance).
Saw blade technology:
Laser cutting and hard chrome plating: The saw blade usually uses laser cutting to cut the tooth profile, ensuring that each tooth is sharp and consistent. The surface is treated with hard chrome plating, greatly enhancing anti adhesion (preventing sawdust blockage).
3-side grinding: This is the symbol of a saw. The three sides of the sawtooth are polished to form extremely sharp cutting edges, achieving a "planing" effect. The cutting speed is fast and labor-saving, and the incision is smooth and flat, which is conducive to tree healing.
Body material: The body must be lightweight and sturdy. Aviation grade aluminum alloy has high strength, light weight, and is not easily fatigued after long-term operation. Some products use carbon fiber materials, which are lighter but more expensive. Check if the connection is secure and if the locking mechanism is reliable.
2. Saw blade design and tooth profile: determining cutting efficiency and experience
Tooth shaped design:
Coarse teeth (large tooth pitch): Suitable for quickly cutting thicker dead branches or trees with softer wood, with high efficiency but relatively rough incisions.
Fine tooth (small tooth pitch): Suitable for cutting live branches, fruit trees, or trees with hard wood, cutting is more effortless and the incision is smoother.
It is recommended to choose a saw blade with a mixed tooth profile (Variable Pitch) or a folded back tooth profile. This design uses sawtooth combinations of different sizes and angles during the push-pull stroke, which can effectively remove chips, prevent saw jamming, and achieve smooth cutting.
Cutting methods: divided into pull cutting and push-pull two-way cutting. Pull cutting (cutting under force only when pulled back) is more labor-saving and easy to control, making it the choice for most high branch saws.
3. Weight and balance: The key to determining operational fatigue is "lightweight". The overall weight of the saw (especially the weight of the shaft and saw head) directly affects the comfort of long-term operations. The ideal high branch saw should be able to be easily lifted and operated with one hand even after installing the long pole. The weight distribution should be balanced, and the head should not be too heavy, otherwise it can easily lead to rapid arm fatigue.
4. Expansion rod and connecting mechanism
Length: The common length of telescopic rods is between 2.5 meters and 6 meters. The selection should be based on the height of the trees in your courtyard. It is not recommended to blindly pursue length. The longer the pole, the easier it is for the head to shake and the lower the control accuracy. 3-4 meters is generally sufficient for household use.
Adjustment methods: There are segmented and infinitely expandable types. Segmented fixation through holes for greater stability; The infinitely expandable type allows for free adjustment of length, making it more flexible. Regardless of the type, the locking mechanism must be reliable to prevent sudden retraction or loosening when applying force, which can cause danger.
Angle head adjustment: The saw head of a high branch saw can usually be adjusted to different angles (such as 0 °, 15 °, 30 °, 45 °, etc.) to cut branches from different directions, avoid overexertion from lifting the head, and easily handle lateral branches.
